New Multitel SMX225

Higher Access the UK’s largest specialist tracked access platform rental company has added the Multitel SMX225 to its rental fleet. After an evaluation covering the best part of one year the new Multitel SMX 225 in the Higher Access corporate colours is now in service.

It is a quite unique platform and will enable us to service a wide range of customers with this particular unit says Peter Ashburner of Higher Access. In addition to being powered by a Kubota diesel engine for indoor use the platform can operate either from a 110v supply, for construction sites, or a 240v supply where that is the power source available. Weighing only 2.5 tons the Multitel SMX225 can be transported using a standard small trailer towed by any vehicle with a towing capacity of 3100 kg or more. This not only reduces the cost of delivery to site but opens up new market opportunities. Customers will be able to hire the Multitel SMX 225 complete with a trailer and collect it from a Higher Access depot.

The SMX 225 offers 22.5m of working height and up to 10.25m of working outreach. It is extremely compact measuring only 4.5m long with the cage removed or 4.66m with the cage in place. It is 0.98m wide and 1.98m high in transit, has a low centre of gravity and in addition to its standard jacking position has a narrow jacking option so can operate in a corridor of only 2.9m wide. In this mode it has full 360 degree slewing, a feature not found on other platforms in this size range. The Higher Access platforms are fitted with a 110v power outlet in the cage, they come with the standard SMX 225 cage rotation of 90 degrees each way and have two speed drive motors. With the unit in high speed mode according to Melvyn Else, Managing Director of Access Industries Multitel’s UK distributor “the unit moves along at a brisk walking pace”.
